FIRST DAYS IN MONTEROTONDO

Good morning from Monterotondo,

One of the most interesting experiences of yesterday has been to listen to the 3rd year students to talk about the topic they have chosen for the exam they make at the end of the first grade secondary school.

The artistic education has an important theoretical part about the history of art, and for this exam that they do officially at the end of the first grade of the secondary school, they have to develop a topic of their choice. The subjects chosen by these final year students range from The evolution of Fashion, through the Importance of color in Pointillism or Gender violence seen through the work of the Baroque artist Artemisa Gentileschi, to The relationship between the football and art, inspired by the work Partita di calcio (football match) by the italian futurist artist Carlo Carra.

There has also been a moment for a practical part. The 1st year students have been working on the theory of color building chromatic scales with the primary colors, and the 2nd year ones have begun to work the light and shadows by constructing three-dimensional words and observing the shadows they produce and then reproduce them with the pencil. A very interesting and intense morning.

Buenos días desde Monterotondo,

Una de las experiencias más interesantes de ayer ha sido escuchar a los alumnos de 3° hablar sobre el tema que han elegido para el examen que hacen al final de la escuela secundaria de primer grado.

La educación artística tiene una parte teórica importante sobre historia del arte, y para este examen que hacen de manera oficial al final del primer grado de la secundaria, han de desarrollar un tema de su elección. Los temas que han elegido estos alumnos de último año van desde La evolución de la moda, pasando por la Importancia del color en el Puntillismo o la Violencia de género vista a través de la obra de la artista barroca Artemisa Gentileschi, hasta la Relación entre el fútbol y el arte inspirado en la obraPartita di calcio (Parido de futbol), del artista futurista italiano Carlo Carra.

También ha habido momento para a parte práctica. Los alumnos de 1º han estado trabajando la teoría del color creando escalas cromáticas con los colores primarios, y los de 2º han comenzado ha trabajar el claroscuro construyendo palabras tridimensionales y observando las sombras que producen para luego reproducirlas con el lápiz. Una mañana muy interesante e intensa.

Este es el diario del projecto de Job Shadowing de nuestra profesora de Arte de Secundaria, Meritxell Puertas. Aquí podréis encontrar sus actividades cotidianas en la escuela, sus experiencias, reflexiones y aprendizajes durante dos semanas intensas en uno de nuestras escuelas favoritas, las escuela secundaria IRC Giovagnoli en Monterotondo, Italia.

Last day in Malta!

Hello everyone!

Today was our last day of the course. To begin the class, the teacher introduced some new tools. First of all we learnt how to use www.padlet.com which is a very useful tool when we want our students to share some ideas or make a brainstorming. They just need to click in a wall provided by the teacher and they can write what they want to share or post a picture. In addition, Padlet gives us the possibility to link it with other applications such as our WebQuest. 

Afterwards we went to www.thinglink.com and we have learnt how to create an interactive picture. We can link different objects from the picture to videos or different sites that give us particular information about that. We have created this one, where you can get some information about New 7 Wonders in the World:

After exploring those new tools, we made our presentations about our WebQuests. Watching the presentations I realized that we have learnt quite a lot. I am very happy with course and I feel grateful for coming. 

After the presentations we got our certificates and we said good bye to our classmates and teacher. 





Meeting all this people has been a great experience for me. We have shared a lot during these two weeks, we have learnt about the other´s education systems, different ways of teaching, new tools and strategies in order to teach…and we had fun together. It was great and I was pretty sad to say goodbye. Fortunately we will keep in touch, and who knows, perhaps we could meet again in Poland, Italy, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Austria, Spain…or coming back to Malta to do another course!

Hoy ha sido el ultimo día del curso. La profesora empezó introduciendo algunas herramientas nuevas. Primero aprendimos a utilizar www.padlet.com la cual es muy útil si queremos que nuestro grupo de alumnos/as compartan ideas o hagan brainstorming. Simplemente hay que hacer click en un muro creado por el profesor o la profesora y ellos pueden escribir lo que quieran e incluso adjuntar una foto. Además, Padlet nos ofrece la posibilidad de enlazar el muro que hayamos hecho con otras aplicaciones como WebQuest. 

Después de Padlet, trabajamos con la página www.thinglink.com, en la que podemos crear una imagen interactiva. Podemos enlaza diferentes objetos de la imagen a páginas o videos para aportar más información. Hemos hecho esta, sobre las “Nuevas siete maravillas del Mundo”:

Despues de explorer estas nuevas herramientas, hicimos nuestras presentaciones sobre las Webquest que hemos hecho esta semana. Mientras escuchaba a mis compañeros/as me he dado cuenta de tono lo que hemos aprendido durante el curso. Estoy muy contenta y me siento muy agradecida por haber venido. 

Después de las presentaciones nos dieron nuestros certificados y nos despedimos de nuestra profesora y nuestros compañeros/as. 


Conocer a todas estas personas a sido genial. Hemos compartido muchas cosas a lo largo de estas dos semanas; hemos aprendido sobre los sistemas educativos de otros países, diferentes formas de enseñar, nuevas herramientas y estrategias para el desempeño de nuestra labor…y lo hemos pasado muy buen juntos/as. Me ha dado pena despedirme de ellos/as; pero afortunadamente vamos a mantener el contacto y quién sabe, a lo mejor nos volvemos a encontrar otra vez en Polonia, Italia, República Checa, Hungría, Eslovenia, Austria, España…o en Malta haciendo otro curso! 

More resources and visit to Comino Island

Hi everyone!

Yesterday the teacher started up explaining some online applications. We explored a teacher sharing site: https://learningapps.org/ where we could find lots of applications with games and activities we can use in the classroom. Moreover, it provides us with the possibility to make our own applications so that we can adapt them to the contents we are working on. 

Afterwards we worked in groups on our WebQuest, and we have included some games we made with Learningapps on it.

In the afternoon we went to Comino Island, situated between Malta and Gozo. The island’s main attraction is the Blue Lagoon; it´s an incredible place but it was very crowded so we didn´t spend much time there and we decided to have a walk around the island that gave us the opportunity to find some heavenly places like the one you can see in this picture, one of the Santa Maria caves.

Today, we have learnt about another online education tool to make some activities we can include in our WebQuest: Puzzlemaker. It allows us to create Cryptograms, Word Searches and other games in an easy way. 

We have finished the classes working on our WebQuest, adding an evaluation rubric which we made in http://rubistar.4teachers.org.

Ayer la profesora comenzó explicando cómo utilizar algunas aplicaciones. Exploramos una página web en la que otros/as profesores/as comparten materiales https://learningapps.org/; en la que podemos encontrar un montón de aplicaciones con juegos que podemos utilizar en clase. Además, en esta página podemos hacer nuestras propias aplicaciones adaptadas a los contenidos que estemos trabajando con nuestros/as alumnos/as.

Después seguimos haciendo la WebQuest en grupos e incluimos algunos juegos que creamos en Learningapps.

Por la tarde fuimos a la isla de Comino, que está entre Malta y Gozo. Lo más destacado de la isla es “Blue Lagoon”, un lugar que nos pareció precioso pero demasiado concurrido; por que decidimos caminar haciendo el perímetro de la isla. En nuestro paseo pudimos contemplar paisajes preciosos y lugares increíbles como este que podéis ver en la foto, una de las cuevas de Santa María. 

Hoy hemos aprendido a utilizar otra herramienta online con la cual podemos crear actividades: Puzzlemaker. Ésta nos permite crear criptogramas, sopas de letras y otros juegos de forma fácil. Por equipos hemos hecho algunas actividades para incluir en nuestra WebQuest en la cual hemos añadido también una rúbrica de evaluación que hicimos en http://rubistar.4teachers.org.

Clilstore and visit to Marsaxlokk

At the first part of the class we have been exploring a new tool which is included in multidict.net called Clilstore. It is an educational tool that links any text you choose to multidict, so that we can click a word from the text and we can know the meaning exactly in this moment without the need to open another website. In addition, there is a bank of units classified by different levels in order to find the proper one for our students.

After we have seen some units, we have created our own Clilstore unit using different resources and we have learnt as well how can we link it to our WebQuest. 

I think these tools are very useful and I am sure we will use them because once you create a unit it’s always on the internet to reuse it always you need. It has an attractive format for the students and I would like to motivate them through several ways.

In the evening we went to visit Marsaxlokk, a small fishing Village. The first thing that we noticed once we got there where the beautiful colourful boats in the peaceful harbour. After walked around the area, we had dinner in a lovely typical Maltese restaurant where we ate local seafood.

Hoy dedicamos la primera de la parte de la clase a explorar una herramienta nueva de multidict.net que se llama Clilstore. Ésta es una herramienta educativa que conecta cualquier texto que elijamos con Multidict, de forma que haciendo clic en una palabra aparece su significado al momento, sin necesidad de abrir ninguna otra web. Además, Clilstore funciona como banco de unidades clasificadas por niveles, de forma que podemos buscar las más adecuadas para nuestros/as alumnos/as.

Despues de ver algunas unidades, creamos una nosotros/as mismos/as. Para ello utilizamos diferentes recursos; y también aprendimos cómo conectar esta unidad con nuestra WebQuest.

Creo que estas herramientas son muy útiles y las utilizaré seguro ya que, una vez que creas una unidad, ésta permanece en la red y puedes utilizarla en cualquier momento. Tiene un formato atractivo para los/as alumnos/as y creo que es una forma de motivarles a través de diferentes formas de trabajo.

Por la tarde visitamos Marsaxlokk, un pequeño pueblo pesquero. Lo primero que nos llamó la atención fueron los barcos, que son muy bonitos y coloridos. El puerto es agradable y tranquilo. Después del paseo fuimos a un restaurante donde comimos pescado y probamos algunos entrantes típicos de Malta.

WebQuests

Good night everyone!

Today, we began the classes watching a video about CLIL. The video helped us to understand this teaching and learning system, its important aspects and some significant requirements that teachers need to be aware of teaching CLIL. Fist of all the teacher gave us a summary that helped us to expect the things we should focus on. After that, we have worked in groups and we had to complete some tasks about it. Those tasks have been tha base for the review of the contents of last week.

In the second class we had a discussion about the dictionary and its uses in school. A part of the class defend that a dictionary is a must have when teaching an additional language, in the other hand, there is a group which says it should be the last resource to know the meaning of a word. After the discussion we have been exploring multidict.net as an online tool that provide us with the posibility to compare what different dictionaries offer us.

During the last class we began to learn about WebQuests. A WebQuest is a lesson format in which the information comes from the web. It can be created through several programs. What we want our students to do is solving a central problem. The WebQuest is the prop where students know exactly the structure they should follow to do the task as well as what is expected related to evaluation. To finish the work we have chosen a topic to develope our own WebQuest.

Hoy empezamos las clases viendo un vídeo de CLIL. El vídeo nos ayudó a entender este sistema de enseñanza y aprendizaje, sus aspectos más importantes y algunos aspectos a tener en cuenta por los profesores/as que trabajan con CLIL. Para empezar, la profesora nos dio un sumario que nos ayudó a entender en qué cosas teníamos que centrarnos al visualizar el vídeo. Después, trabajamos en grupos haciendo algunas actividades sobre éste. Estas tareas nos llevaron a hacer un repaso muy completo de los contenidos trabajados la semana pasada.

Durante la segunda clase hablamos sobre los usos del diccionario en la escuela. Una parte de la clase defendió que el diccionario es algo estrictamente necesario cuando enseñamos una lengua y la otra parte defendió que el diccionario debería ser el último recurso a utilizar cuando queremos saber el significado de una palabra. Después de esto exploramos en multidict.net . Es una herramienta online que nos da la posibilidad de comparar lo que nos ofrecen diferentes diccionarios en una misma web.

Durante la última clase empezamos a aprender sobre las WebQuests. Éstas son formatos de aprendizaje en los que la información está en la web. Puede crearse a través de diferentes herramientas y programas. Lo que queremos que nuestros alumnos/as hagan en la WebQuest es resolver un problema central. Para ello se les presenta una estructura en la que ellos/as comprenden los pasos a seguir y los criterios de evaluación. Terminamos la clase trabajando en grupo y eligiendo un tema para desarrollar nuestra propia WebQuest.

Gozo

Today was a great day. We scape from our beloved crowdy St. Julian´s and we enjoyed a peaceful day in Gozo Island. As usual, it took a long to get there (transport in Malta is not its best thing...) but after two buses and one ferry trip we arrived to this amazing place. 

I have fallen inlove with Gozo because it has a wonderful light, traditional limestone houses with coloured balconies, a very quiet atmosphere, and it is surrounded by stunningly blue sea. 

We came back in the ferry in the evening and we could enjoy a unique sunset.

Hoy hemos pasado un día genial. Nos hemos escapado de nuestro querido y concurrido St. Julian´s y hemos disfrutado de un día tranquilo en la isla de Gozo. Para variar, nos llevó bastante tiempo ir allí (el transporte en Malta no es lo mejor que tiene...) pero después de dos autobuses y un ferry llegamos a este alucinante lugar.

Me he enamorado de Gozo por su maravillosa luz, sus tradicionales casas de caliza con balcones de colores, su atmósfera, silenciosa y calmada y el sorprendente azul del mar que la rodea.

Volvimos en el ferry por la tarde y disfrutamos de una puesta de sol única.
